We were very excited in November to receive a gold medal at the 2020 Official Great Aussie Pie Competition held in Sydney for their fruit mince pies.
Kytons mince pies contain top grade Australian dried fruit -the plump juicy kind, a festive mix of spices and a hint of Barossa Brandy, encased in a crisp butter shortbread shell, with a sprinkle of sugar on top. They are baked at Kytons production facility in Edwardstown, where we employ over 20 people in the lead up to Christmas.
Plus this year, Kytons bakers have created the “fancy fruit mince pie” – the same delicious filling, but adorned with a festive star and streaks of cinnamon and white chocolate – to make an extra special treat for Christmas celebrations or as a gift. These special edition mince pies are only available from Kytons retail store in Edwardstown, but our traditional fruit mince pies are available through Drakes, Foodlands, gourmet fruit and veg stores, direct from Kytons at Edwardstown, Kytons online store and community fundraising drives as well as for for the food service sector.
Like most businesses 2020 has had its challenges so it has been fantastic to have a gold medal to share with our staff who have worked so hard this year and reflects the quality of product and the care the staff show in making them.
Getting the mince pies to a judging panel in Sydney in the middle of a pandemic had its own challenges too. We carefully wrapped the four mince pies required, then packed paper around them in a box. Then we put that box in a bigger box and crossed our fingers as they travelled across Australia overnight via courier! They obviously made it to the judges in one piece!
