The last three months have seen businesses, including Kytons, change and adapt their business model in what have been some of the most challenging and fast changing business times most of us have ever seen. But changing how it does business is not something that is new to Kytons – especially for its fundraising.

First set up as a bakehouse in 1938 to service the family’s café – Kay’s Kafe in Adelaide, Kytons moved into the Adelaide Central Market where it remained a market institution for 40 years until the mid-1980s.

In the mid-1980s Kytons left the market and became Adelaide’s iconic fundraising bakery – starting out selling its lamingtons as a “kit” (1st photo above). Fundraisers received the sponge as giant sheets, buckets of coconut, Kytons famous chocolate mix in a powder form, a giant ruler and a giant knife to cut the sponge. Yes – fundraisers made their own lamingtons. We have heard many wonderful stories about the fun and mess that customers had with long trestle tables full of lamingtons.

But times changed again and the “kit” disappeared, replaced by Kytons making and packaging the lamingtons (2nd photo above) for the fundraisers and adding a Winter and Christmas range of products to the fundraising range. Check out our “lamington land” video to see how the lamingtons are made these days. For the last 25 years, the products have been collected by fundraisers all wrapped and ready to break into their members’ individual orders.

However, the arrival of Covid-19 has seen Kytons change how we do fundraising again. We know that at the moment gathering together volunteers to pack the individual orders is a little challenging – so the Kytons staff will pack you orders for you (3rd photo above)! This offer is currently available for Terms 2 & 3 for 2020 and is available whether you run a Lamington, Winter or Kytons Classic Fundraising Drive. It’s all part of our aim to make fundraising as simple and easy as we can for our customers in these challenging times. Details can be found in the Kytons fundraising pack or give our staff a call on 81770156 for more information.

Kytons has been a proud part of the South Australian community for over 80 years – baking delicious food for you to enjoy and assisting thousands of groups raise millions of dollars through our fundraising drives over the last 40 years. We will continue to adapt and change to help our customers and improve our business and thank you for your support of our family owned, SA business.
